Cellpower Insulation Guard

The Cellpower Insulation Guard is a leakage current protection for vehicles such as service vans. This is designed to protect persons who work outside of a vehicle with devices that operate on 230VAC, which are powered from within the vehicle (eg tools). Mobile DC-AC inverters and combination (combi) charger/DC AC inverters should, according to the Dutch NEN1010 standard, have a floating output with an Insulation Guard. For both inverters and combi inverter/chargers, versions of the Cellpower Insulation Guard are available.

The Cellpower Isolation Guard is designed to protect persons who work outside of a vehicle with, for example tools that operate at 230 V, while the inverter or combi-inverter/charger is installed in the vehicle . Everyone is familiar with the RCD in buildings. It protects individuals against earth leakage which would be leathal without the circuit breaker. In a mobile application there is no earth(pin) available. As long as one is in the vehicle, there is no danger of leakage current to the earth because the car has rubber tires. If, however, one works outside the vehicle with equipment on 230 volts, which is powered from inside the vehicle, a hazardous leakage current can occur. If one uses an Insulation Guard the 230 Volt - system will be switched off before a hazardous leakage current can occur. To secure a workable situation it is no longer required to use an earth pin.
