Battery testing and measurement is Intercel’s expertise 

Intercel's dedicated battery professionals are always available for on-site measurement and testing of your battery system. There are many different approaches for testing your battery system. If you wish to be able to carry out tests and measurements on your system yourself, Intercel also offers the option of purchasing your own battery tester.



Battery conductance tests

One of the ways in which users can test their batteries is the so-called conductance test. For this purpose, Intercel recommends the Midtronics range of battery testers. These testers measure the resistance – conductance - of the battery. Conductance tests have now become part of the IEEE standard for testing sealed maintenance-free lead-acid batteries.

Battery capacity tests

Another commonly used test to determine battery performance is the capacity test. When carrying out these tests, Intercel uses an AlphaBat testing device. This device discharges the battery while registering voltage and current. Then, as the battery is recharged, all relevant parameters of the charging process are monitored and registered. The AlphaBat battery tester is suitable for use with both 6V and 12V batteries. It is also capable of testing 24V battery chargers. Every type of lead-acid battery can be tested with this device, from wet batteries to sealed maintenance-free batteries such as AGM and gel batteries.

DC load bank battery test

A DC load bank test is essentially a test of your entire battery system. During the test, load bank is connected to your battery system. The battery system is then discharged up to a predetermined voltage by the DC load bank using a preset power level. This means the functions of each component of the battery system can be tested. Once the test has been concluded, the exact runtime of a UPS will be calculated and the load bank will indicate if all battery system components operate within their specifications.
